Print Journalism
I have worked professionally in journalism, both a reporter and a copy editor, since 2013. For three years prior to that, I worked as a volunteer correspondent submitting articles and events calendars on behalf of an environmental education center attached to a city parks department. During this time, I have accrued approximately 500 published writing credits. Newspaper work today is done primarily on a distance collaboration model. As a reporter, I have written for editors whom I have never met in person and sometimes have never even spoken with on the phone. My work in researching and writing newspaper stories on deadline, as well as collaborating with editors via email, provides me with a rich well of experience that relates to the type of independent scholarship and distance collaborations online students face in their studies.
